Merot vs. Deel — for hiring in the Balkans
Deel is the global EOR catalog that handles 150+ countries shallowly. Merot is the Balkan specialist that owns the local relationships, supplies office and equipment, and ships shortlists when Deel just signs paperwork.
When each one wins
Balkan-only, full managed-outsourcing
- Your hires are concentrated in the Balkans (1+ in MK, XK, AL, RS, BG, or ME).
- You also need recruiting (we shortlist; Deel doesn't).
- You want office space, IT equipment, or a managed onboarding — not just a payroll wrapper.
- You want a named human contact, not a Zendesk ticket queue.
- Your team is 1–50 people, where personal service matters more than a self-serve console.
Global EOR catalog (150+ countries)
- You need to hire across 50+ countries and want a single console for all of them.
- You already have your own recruiting pipeline and just need the EOR pipes.
- You're a 500+ headcount company that needs SOC 2 / ISO badges and procurement-friendly contracts.
- You want a self-serve product with no human in the loop.
- You're hiring contractors globally and need rapid onboarding paperwork at scale.

Frequently asked questions
If I'm only hiring 1 person in Macedonia, why not just use Deel?
You can — Deel will do it. The differences show up at month 3: you need office space (Deel doesn't have any), the engineer asks for a MacBook (Deel sends you to Hofy), payroll has a question about the December 13th salary (Deel routes you through a help-desk). Merot does all of that with one named person who knows your account.
Is Merot cheaper than Deel?
Comparable for pure EOR ($599 starting). Cheaper when you'd otherwise pay for recruiting + office + equipment separately — those bundle into our managed-outsourcing tier.
Can I leave Merot and hire the worker myself later?
Yes. We don't lock you in. If you set up your own entity in MK/XK/AL/etc., we hand over the employment cleanly with proper notice. A few of our clients have done this once they crossed ~30 employees in a country.
What about Deel's product / dashboard?
Deel has a slicker self-serve product — that's a real advantage if you want to onboard someone on a Sunday at 3am without talking to anyone. We have a portal too (employer + employee dashboards), but our DNA is human-led, not console-first. Pick the model that matches how you want to work.
Do you do contractors like Deel does?
Yes — for the same Balkan countries. We also handle the local quirks (договор за дело in MK with PDDGI XML, etc.) that generic platforms either skip or get wrong.
