Kosovo has Europe's youngest population (median age ~30). EUR is the official currency, which eliminates FX risk for US/EU clients. Pristina's tech and BPO scene has expanded rapidly; English fluency among university-aged workers is among the highest in the Balkans. Merot operates a subsidiary here (MEROT L.L.C.).

Häufige Fragen — Kosovo
Do I need a Kosovan entity to hire?
No — Merot L.L.C. is registered in Pristina and employs your team locally under a compliant Kosovan contract per Law No. 03/L-212 on Labour.
What's the minimum gross salary I can offer?
From 1 January 2026 the statutory minimum is €425/month gross; scheduled to rise to €500/month gross from 1 July 2026 by government decree. Hiring engineers, sales or designers, you'll typically pay several multiples of this — see the salary table above.
How does payroll tax work in Kosovo?
Progressive PIT from 0% (under €960/yr) up to a top bracket of 10% (above €5,400/yr), withheld monthly. A flat 5%/5% pension split between employer and employee is mandatory; voluntary additional pension up to 15% each side is permitted. Total employer cost ≈ 105% of gross — substantially lower employer-side overhead than Western EU.
What's the notice period in Kosovo?
Tenure-based: 30 days for 6 months to 2 years of service, 45 days for 2–10 years, 60 days for 10+ years (Law No. 03/L-212). In practice senior engineers often agree to longer (60–90 days) for clean handovers.
What language does the team speak?
Albanian is the primary working language, with Serbian also recognised. English fluency is very high among university-educated talent (EF EPI: high proficiency band). Many hires also speak German or Italian.
Is Kosovo in the EU?
Not yet — Kosovo is a potential EU candidate. However, since January 2024 Kosovo passport holders have visa-free Schengen access, which simplifies travel and on-site visits.
Currency?
EUR is the official currency. No FX conversion overhead other than your standard EUR/USD rate.
How do you handle equipment for hires in Kosovo?
We source from local distributors or import via our Skopje office (1.5h drive). Day-one delivery is standard.
